The Golden Piglet is run by VitaReset s.r.o., Cafourkova 521/3, 181 00 Praha 8, Czech Republic, company ID 24037435 — the data controller. Questions or requests: hello@ourczechchristmas.com.
If you only look up your village
Nothing about you is stored. The page runs in your browser: the village you type, your family name, your children's names and the rituals you tick stay on your device. We count usage per visit — which place was looked up (and, when a village isn't found, what was typed, so we can add it), which screens of the story were reached, whether a card was saved or shared, and which link brought you here (for example a Facebook post) — without your IP address or cookies. A visit is a random number kept in your browser only until you close the tab; it is never stored with your e-mail, and these counts keep only the hour, not the exact time. To stop abuse, our server briefly uses your IP address to limit how many requests one connection can make; it is not stored.
When you confirm your e-mail, a "light" is added to our public map, Lights of Czech America: +1 for the village you looked up and +1 for the US state you told us (in the story, or with the optional tap after confirming). We never work out where you are from your connection. The map shows only totals, never which light is whose (the state you give is kept with your sign-up, like the rest of what you told us). The public numbers are updated once a day, and a village or a state is shown only from three lights on. (Lights are counted only once real e-mails are being sent.)
If you ask for the free gifts
We store your e-mail address, the gifts you chose, the place you looked up (with its district and region), the period your family left and the US state you picked, if any, plus which link brought you here and which version of the sign-up screen you saw. Only if you choose Ježíšek's letter or the booklet do we also store your family name and the children's first names you typed. If you chose the Advent e-mails and ticked Christmas Eve rituals in the story, we store which ones, so that the 24 December e-mail can remind you of them. If you answer "what would make Christmas feel Czech for your family?", we store your answer.
We also keep the exact wording you agreed to and when, as proof of your consent. You confirm by clicking a link in the first e-mail; nothing else is sent until you do.
Why we may: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). When you sign up you ask for the Advent e-mails and a few e-mails a year about the Golden Piglet Christmas box; the sign-up screen says so before you send, and the confirm e-mail lists both. You can unsubscribe from everything with one click in any e-mail. If you signed up before 26 October 2026, product news was a separate box, and we only send it if you ticked it.
How long
Until you unsubscribe — every e-mail has a one-click link. 30 days after you unsubscribe, or 30 days after a confirm e-mail you never clicked, your sign-up is deleted. The record of what you agreed to is kept for 3 years to prove your consent, then deleted.
Who helps us
The page loads nothing from other companies: fonts, pictures and village flags all come from our own site. The one exception: when you start typing your e-mail, Cloudflare's Turnstile checks that you are a person and not a script signing up other people's addresses. It looks at your browser, not at what you typed.
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and its database and runs the Turnstile check.
- Resend, Inc. sends the e-mails.
Both are US companies and may process data in the US. Both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and we have data processing agreements with both.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, take it with you, or withdraw your consent at any time — without affecting what happened before. You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, the Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).
